Saaremaa ühisgümnasium

Saaremaa's Co-ed gymnasium is situated on the small island of Saaremaa, in the western part of Estonia. It was the first secondary school in Saaremaa. There are 843 pupils and 67 teachers in Saaremaa's Co-ed gymnasium.

During the last five years there are special nature-biased classes working in the Saaremaa's Co-ed gymnasium. In these classes more biology, chemistry and environmental sciences are taught than in ordinary classes.

The students are involved in several environmental projects like "Black carbon in Estonian air", "Baltic Sea Project", "Air Pollution Project Europe" etc. They are also working on their individual investigation projects. Our students have got very good results in the all-Estonian competitions on biology and environmental research papers. Some of these have been invited to the international conferences and competitions (Istanbul, Munich, Karlskrona, Kotka and London). Every year an international student conference, "Environment & Home", is organised by the students of our nature classes. We have had guests from Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Slovenia, Italy and Estonia. The international contacts are expanded every year - visits, pen-friends, student exchanges and conferences.

Our contact persons are Indrek Peil and Ülle Kreos.
