Carl XVI Gustaf, The King of Sweden
Silvia, The Queen of Sweden
Your Royal Majesties,
This is a great honour for us to send this message to you. People in Haapsalu and in our county have the nicest memories from your visit in spring 1992.
The electronic environment has expanded dramatically during the last three years. The Swedish government, private firms and organizations have been giving a lot of support to Estonia to create better communication connections to the world.
Haapsalu and our school have got tremendous support from Svenska Kommunförbundet and Haninge Kommun, SUN Microsystems, Microsoft, ICL etc. to equip a study and communication centre on this side of the Baltic Sea.
Right now, in this computer centre, we are having a course for our teachers of environmental studies. This is a part of friendshipwork between Lääne Maakond (County) and Haninge Kommun, started already 1991. The lecturers Nils Brandt and Fredrik Gröndahl are from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. The teachers are getting to know how to integrate environment and computer studies.
There are presently more than one hundred schools in Estonia using e-mail services and this number is increasing rapidly.
The next step will be starting to use full acess to the INTERNET andschools in our Lääne County hopefully will start it in September.
Thank you once again for communicating with us.
Sincerely,
Hannes Danilov, The Governor of Lääne County of Estonia
Andres Huul, The Headmaster of Haapsalu Wiedemanni Gymnasium
Nils Brandt, Scientist, Royal Institute of Technology
Fredrik Gröndahl, Scientist, Royal Institute of Technology
